Marketing Tips From Around The Blogosphere

Tuesdays will never be the same after today at Marketing Tips For Authors. Starting next Tuesday, I have scheduled guest writers out through May with more invites outstanding and more recommendations coming in daily. These guest writers are authors, publicists, marketing experts and web designers who all will share their tips with you on how you can drive people to your books.

To give you a taste of what's in store for you, our first guest writer is Kat Smith. Kat is a former model and host of a nationally syndicated radio morning show with ABC Radio Networks, Inc. She is a seminar leader and public speaker. Somehow she has found time to start her own publishing company and is the author of two books. I will save some of her credits for next week, but I do want to tell you that she will share some tips with you on how to create buzz with book marketing and the media. She will give media coaching tips like securing interviews, how to prepare for an interview, developing yourself as an expert with nonfiction topics, and using video to market yourself/product. Make sure you don't miss this blog entry on Tuesday, March 10th.

Since this is my last Tuesday with you for a while, I thought I'd take this time to highlight great marketing tips I have found on blogs throughout the blogosphere. I'm sure you will find some other experts who are committed too doing what I am doing: helping authors find inexpensive, creative ways to promote themselves and their books. I hope you enjoy these entries.

1. Fire This Publicist by Sandra Beckwith. This is a great piece that goes to show you that hiring the wrong publicist is sometimes worse than having no publicist at all.

2. The Secrets To Marketing Fiction by Penny C. Sansevieri. This is an article that I picked up from a tweet of one of the top book publicists in the country. Fiction publicity has its own challenges, so this is a great read for all you story tellers.

3. Twenty Usability Tips for Your Blog — Condensed from Dozens of Bloggers’ Experiences compiled by Tom Johnson. The title says it all.

4. 31 Self Publishing Tips for Small Press Month from Brent Sampson, author of Sell Your Book on Amazon. March is Small Press Month and to celebrate, Brent shares a tip a day on how to promote your book.

5. One Web 2.0 Step at A Time by Nettie Hartsock. Quick read that will get you going if you don't know where to start with your marketing efforts.

6. Make People Come To Your Website by NicheMarketingExplained.com. Most of the tips in this blog article are free and things you definitely need to be doing.

7. How Not To Get Your Book Reviewed by Amber Stults. Amber nails the reason why this blog exists in the first place. If you happen to be the subject of her blog article, stick with me for a while.

8. Talking to the Tel Aviv Writer’s Cafe: 7 tips for marketing yourself with blogs and social media by Miriam Schwab. Excellent tips to show that the things you read here apply around the world.

9. Using Facebook to Network and Market Your Work by Margo Dill. If you have thought about starting a Facebook page, do it and read this.

10. Self Promotion is Not a Dirty Word Or Three Lessons in Marketing by Margay Leah Justice. Timely advice that should help every writer see the importance of learning the art of self promotion.

Well, there are ten articles from around the blogosphere that will help you increase your media and online presence. I hope that you have been able to pull out 2 or 3 or 30 ideas from today's posting. I know I have.

I'm trying to gather all of the marketing advice I can before my picture book is published this year. My blog focuses heavily on marketing? Do you ever do guest posts?

What people are saying about our free marketing video tips

Let me just tell you... Your archive tip on linking a photo to another page where people can buy your book was so incredibly helpful and amazingly clear that you now have a real fan. SO smart to take away the fear that so many have of HTML. I followed it to the letter and posted a link on my blog today. Have a look. It's all because of you.
