Effective Internet Marketing Helps Avoid Missed Opportunities
By Phyllis Zimbler Miller

Recently at a reception I saw an old friend who has his own business, a business that is helped by connections. Earlier that day LinkedIn had suggested I connect with him, and I'd sent him a LinkedIn invite.

I told my friend that I had just connected with him on LinkedIn. He said, "I don't do that." I said, "You don't do what?" He replied, "I just delete those invitations."

While I tried to get my dropped jaw back in place, he added, "What would I do with those invitations?"

Still in shock, I said, "If you don't know what you'd do with them, then they wouldn't do you any good."

If you are reading this guest post on Tony Eldridge's valuable blog, it's reasonable to assume that you have at least a basic understanding of how developing online relationships can help you promote your brand, book or business.

But do you truly understand that the more strategic the effort you put into Internet marketing, the more benefits you can hope to accrue?

For example, if you're on LinkedIn (which at the moment is one of the top three social media sites I would recommend for developing online relationships), it would be a good idea to invest time into learning how to optimize the opportunities available on this site. And this learning doesn't take place over night – I continually learn new strategies to utilize on LinkedIn.

Yes, it can be difficult, frustrating and time-consuming to learn all these new technologies, especially as each one can be so different. But the benefits, if you're willing to invest the time and effort, can be well worth it.

And because I personally know how difficult, frustrating and time-consuming it can be to learn new online strategies, I created the ebook What You Should Know About the Launch of an Online Information Product to save you time and aggravation.

This ebook has a step-by-step approach to the elements that go into a product launch, plus there's a great deal of general Internet marketing information. Check out the ebook now at http://www.millermosaicllc.com/product-launch-ebook/

FYI: The Internet offers us all equal access to global marketing – it's up to us how we utilize this gift.

I'm on LinkedIn - and yes, accept all requests! - but it's not a site to which I've devoted a lot of time. Once I hit 25 social sites, I realized I could only be effective hitting five on a regular basis - although if LinkedIn is better than Twitter, I'll move it up!

Diane --

Which site is better depends on your own specific Internet marketing goals. I personally find Twitter the best for me at the moment, but I'm expanding my investment in LinkedIn to see what happens. And I agree that you can only be effective on a few social media sites in any one time period.

Let me just tell you... Your archive tip on linking a photo to another page where people can buy your book was so incredibly helpful and amazingly clear that you now have a real fan. SO smart to take away the fear that so many have of HTML. I followed it to the letter and posted a link on my blog today. Have a look. It's all because of you.
