Now, on to the book review...
I was excited to hear that a revised version of Red Hot Internet Publicity was coming out. As fast at the Internet changes, print books are hard to keep up these changes. The earlier version of Red Hot Internet Publicity was already a classic for book marketers, and the revised version is something that every author and publisher needs as a reference tool on his or her desk.
Penny has been able to do more than collect a list of resources, though the resource links in the book are worth far more than the price of the book. She is able to balance what few book marketing authors are able to balance effectively: she has written a book that is as valuable to the author who is a novice at book marketing as well as the expert marketer. I am not too proud to say that I walked away with a list of items to work on myself.
Red Hot Internet Publicity introduces you to the vital elements of marketing your book on the internet. It dives into the social media scene and helps you navigate the currents effectively and efficiently. Don't know what to do first? Don't worry, the author guides you through options, many of which will be perfect for you.
She also teaches you to take a critical look at your website. Can you do better so that you attract more book sales? Penny gives you some immediate insights that took her over 4 years to learn. She covers everything from the words on your website to the colors you choose.
Then she takes you on a virtual book tour- well, she walks you through how to use this strategy to promote your book. She gives you everything you need to effectively introduce your book to the Internet, helping you focus on what is important and what you don't want to overlook.
If you have a blog, or have been thinking about starting a blog, Penny does more than furnish a list of resources. She explains how and why blogging works, what you need to do to become a successful blogger, and how to get started. Oh yeah, she does have a great list of blog resources as well.
If you are selling your book on the Internet (if you are not, you REALLY need this book), she dives into the world of e-commerce. Again, going beyond proving a list of resources, she explains how to get people to buy on your site. In fact, peppered throughout this book are lists to walk you through the successes of marketing your book. The same is true in this section as well. Penny does a great job at making a complex concept like e-commerce easy to understand and implement.
If I spent time highlighting everything in this book, this post would be one of my longest by far, so let me end by pointing out a few more things that Penny touches on in her revised edition of Red Hot Internet Publicity. You will learn to use video effectively, how to use keywords to drive traffic to your site, setting up your site to work for you 24/7, creating powerful newsletters, mastering Twitter and much, much more.
Red Hot Internet Publicity (Revised Edition) by Penny C. Sansevieri should be a worn, marked up and highlighted reference book with dog-eared pages sitting in arms-reach of your computer. This is one book that will pay for itself many, many times over. As an added benefit, it will help ease your frustration and intimidation stemming from marketing your book.
