Using SEO To Get The Biggest Bang For Your Buck By R. Kyle Michael

I always listen to the radio when in my car and a commercial from a local SEO firm called Seota has gotten my attention. I recently contacted Seota and asked if they would be interested in providing a guest post for my readers to talk a little more about what SEO is and how SEO can help them. Seota graciously introduced me to their SEO Guru, R. Kyle Michael, who provides the guest post for today. His title: Using SEO To Get The Biggest Bang For Your Buck.

Before we get to his post, I'd like to mention an educational opportunity you might want to check out. I recently conducted a teleseminar with Dana Lynn Smith entitled, "Boost Your Book Sales With Twitter." In the first half, Dana discussed how authors can use Twitter to sell books, then I talked about how authors can use Twitter contests to find more readers for their books. You can now purchase the recording and also get these added bonus guides:

1. Dana's Twitter Learning Guide
2. Dana's special report, 10 Steps to Online Networking Success
3. My 10-Step Guide for Conducting Effective Twitter Contests

Now, on to Kyle's post...

Search engines account for a considerable amount of traffic directed towards a website. By ranking in the top three search engine results, a majority of the users will be directed towards your site. For search engine optimization, the goal is to obtain a top three result. Something like 60 % of all website traffic will click through the first three results, with the remaining pages left to split up 40%. Gaining web-site traffic this way is called organic search. By improving your organic search results you will dramatically increase the traffic to your website and in turn, increase your revenue.

Search engine optimization is a way to level the playing field for small businesses. By ranking ahead of larger companies in search engine results pages, you can grab a large piece of the market for your business. With SEO, a smaller company can rank ahead of large corporation that may have large advertising budgets and entire teams devoted to marketing. By simply dominating your niche keywords you level the playing field.

To rank well in search engine results it is important to understand how search engines work. Search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing account for 100 billion searches a month and that amount increases every day. The search result that ranks number one for a search will gain 42.1% of the clicks. The number two site will receive 11.9% of the clicks and the third result getting 8.5% of the clicks. As you can see, the top search result gets a majority of the clicks.

The web is essentially a network of links. Search engines find which pages they believe to be the most relevant by crawling and indexing pages. Google looks at links like “votes” for your page. The more links or “votes” you have pointed to your page, the higher you will rank in search engine results. By making the on-site content more “search engine friendly” you increase the visibility of your site to search engines.

To develop a more robust link profile it is a good idea to undergo a link building campaign. When properly executed, a link building campaign can improve your search engine listing in as little as thirty days. The key to link building is to find quality, relevant links, to your site. This process can be slow and tedious but very rewarding if done properly. By optimizing your site for search and developing a strategy for link building you can put your site ahead of the curve.

By using the best search engine optimization practices, your site will improve its ranking and improve traffic directed to your site. Using SEO will give you the highest ROI and has a longer lasting results compared to purchasing web advertising.
